Dr. William Roy Munson was ushered into the arms of Jesus on July 19th, 2024. He was 72 years old.

Bill was born on March 14th, 1952 in Boone, Iowa to Virgil LaVoy and Verna Mae Munson and lived in Madrid, Iowa until the family moved to Southern California in 1959 where he graduated from Artesia High School in 1970.

At the urging of his sister, Barbara, Bill would start attending Community Bible Church of Norwalk, California in 1961. That same year, he accepted Christ as his Savior. Bill would tell you that this decision was the most important and impactful event of his life and his track record of faithful service to his Lord throughout his remaining years certainly would bear that out.

On May 25th, 1973, Bill married Janet Ruth Osborne, his pastor's daughter. Bill and Janet would welcome to their family Jeremy Roy in 1976, Jared Richard in 1979, Sarah Janae in 1983 and Bethany Joy in 1989

Bill was a proud alumni of Pacific Coast Baptist Bible College in San Dimas, California where he graduated with a degree in Theology in 1975. This launched him into full-time Christian ministry which would continue throughout the balance of his life. From 1978 through 2016, Bill pastored churches in:

Downey, California

North Long Beach, California

Appleton, Wisconsin

Hudsonville, Michigan

Newburgh, Indiana

Independence, Kansas

Throughout these years, Bill also served as an associate pastor, evangelist, Christian school teacher and principal. At the time of his passing he was the song leader at Victory Baptist Church in East Moline, Illinois where he also served as a beloved teacher at East Moline Christian School.

Bill's wife of nearly 43 years, Janet, unexpectedly passed away in April of 2016.

In January of 2022, he married Angela Marie Frey, who loved and cared for him until his passing.

Bill spent his entire life seeking out opportunities to share his faith. That was his calling and he did it faithfully, leading hundreds to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. He also gave Biblical counseling to literally thousands, always displaying a tender heart and a discerning spirit.

Bill was also famous (maybe infamous) for his "jokes." We came to affectionately call them "Bill Jokes." They were bad… REAL bad! And he told them over and over and over again through the years. Never developed any new comedic material. Once a "joke" started, we would go to our default mode which included a rolling of the eyes, a shaking of the head and a robust groan.

Bill was an avid sports fan with the Los Angeles Dodgers being his favorite team. He also rooted for the Los Angeles Lakers in basketball and the Green Bay Packers in football.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, Virgil Munson (1969); his mother, Verna Munson Alcott (2016); his brothers, Robert Dean Munson (2010) and Virgil LaVoy Munson Jr. (2021); his wife, Janet Munson (2016); his daughter, Sarah Kelly (2018); and his son, Jeremy Munson (2023).

He is survived by his wife, Angela Munson; Son, Jared (Jennifer) Munson; Daughter, Bethany (McKinley) Songer; Sister Barbara (Steve) Burich; Brother, Bart (Jeana) Munson. Bill also leaves 19 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
