Funeral services for William M. Smith, 87, formerly of East Moline, are 10 AM Saturday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is 3:30-6:30 PM Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation or the National Parkinson's Foundation. William was born November 26, 1917 in Hiteman, IA, the son of John J. and Catherine (Frew) Smith. He married Virginia A. Williams, March 28, 1946 in Des Moines, IA. She died April 14, 1996. Mr. Smith worked at John Deere Spreader Works, East Moline, and later retired in 1983 from John Deere Parts Distribution, Milan after 46 years. He served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII. William enjoyed hunting, watching sports on TV and in earlier years attending UTHS Basketball Games and his son's Varsity Football games. Survivors include daughter Leone Dunn, Illinois City, son and daughter-in-law John J. and Christine Smith, Racine, WI, grandchildren and spouses David and Jodie Smith, Elizabeth and Robert Erhardt and Sarah and David Baty, and great grandchildren Ashlee, Brianna, Jesse, Griffen and Mikayla.
