Obituary

Funeral services for William T. Vidmar, 85, East Moline, are 10 AM Saturday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Entombment is in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct Military Honors. Visitation is 4-7 PM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30PM. Memorials may be made to the Monsignor William J. Cleary Endowment Fund or to the Knights of Columbus Leo Council. Bill died Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at his home. William was born February 29, 1924 in Centerville, IA, the son of Joseph and Katherine (Thomas) Vidmar. He served in the US Navy during WWII. He married Pauline Miletich on April 23, 1949. She died May 9, 1999. Bill worked as a sheet metal worker at Johnson Sheet Metal, East Moline and later retired from the former International Harvester Farmall, Rock Island on May 14, 1985. In early years Bill had his pilot's license and loved to fly. He enjoyed radio controlled airplanes and boats. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. Survivors include his children: Michael (Roberta) Vidmar, Davenport, IA, Katherine (Steven) Johnson, Port Byron, Richard Vidmar, Moline, Robert (Jennifer) Vidmar, Silvis, Christine Vidmar, Silvis and Carolyn (Greg) Erickson, Lone Tree, CO, 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, sister Teresa Jackovich, Bettendorf, and brothers John Vidmar, Centerville, IA and Leonard Vidmar, Urbandale, IA. He is preceded in death by his wife Pauline, a granddaughter Kayla, and brothers; Charlie and Francis.
