Obituary

William C. Withrow, a longtime resident of the Quad Cities, died Wednesday, March 19, at Trinity Pathway Hospice at Terrace Park in Bettendorf, IA. He was 72. Visitation will be Monday, March 24, from 4 - 7 p.m. at Van Hoe Funeral Home in East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 6PM. Services will be Tuesday, March 25, at 10 AM at St. Anne Catholic Church in East Moline. Burial will follow at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, with military rites conducted by the East Moline American Legion Post 227. Memorials may be made to the family. William (Bill) was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend whose compassion and selflessness touched many lives. Born February 27, 1936, Bill attended Rock Island High School before joining the Navy in 1954. He married his wife, Jacqueline (Jackie) Timmerman, in 1957, and spent ten years in the service as a Boilermaker First Class. After his discharge, Bill attended Golden Gate University in San Francisco, and went on to work as an auditor for the Internal Revenue Service and the US Department of Defense. He retired in 1997. Bill was an accomplished handyman who loved devising solutions to household problems. He loved to travel, and in his retirement enjoyed playing pogo online, watching CNN and NASCAR religiously, and serving as a math tutor at Glenview Middle School. He was also a member of St. Anne's Church. Bill is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jackie Withrow; his son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Helen Withrow Jr. of Davenport, IA; his daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie Pardee and Lowell Horton of Bettendorf, IA, Linda and Greg Watson of East Moline; grandchildren, Austin Pardee, Thomas Pardee, Jacob Seukunian, Tory Watson, Kya Watson, and Kelsey Watson; his brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Sandy Withrow of Indianapolis; his sister and brother-in-law, Kay and LD Barnes of Stanton, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Kathleen Timmerman of East Moline.
