Willie L. "Red" Coggins, 92, of Moline, IL, died Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Genesis Medical Center-Silvis Campus. A funeral service will be at 11 am Thursday, June 27, 2024 at Van Hoe Funeral Home, 1500 6th Street, East Moline. Visitation will be from 10-11 am Thursday, June 27, 2024 at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, where military honors will be presented. Memorials may be made in care of a veterans organization of your choice.
Red was born in Wynne, AR on October 23, 1931, a son of John and Pauline Sharpe Coggins. He married Barbara Bevins on May 10, 1958 in Rock Island, IL. She preceded him in death on October 25, 2017.
Red was a U.S. Air Force veteran who served during the Korean War. He worked 23 years as a heating and air service technician for Brooke Company in Davenport, IA and retired in 1986.
Red enjoyed all kinds of crafts, rehabbing houses, camping, traveling and at one point, raising and selling Hosta plants. He loved spending time with his children and all of his grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Terry Coggins, Decatur, AL, Kim (Richard) Chapman, Davenport, IA and Rae (Tim) Carlson, East Moline, IL; grandchildren, Jay Coggins, Crystal Hill and Alexandra Benzon; and great-grandchildren, Branden, Kali and Ethan; great-great grandchildren, Caila, Oona, Dawson, Daxton, Watson, Vaeda, MacKellan and Nolan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and siblings, Charline Cook, Roy Coggins, Doris Hughes, Alvin Coggins, Agnes Kernoble, Kathleen Dorris, Arnold Coggins, Donald Coggins, Marvin Coggins and Eunice Stanlake.
