Obituary

Funeral services for Agnes Marie (Ries) McCabe, 89, Silvis, are 10 AM Tuesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Graveside services are 9:30 AM Wednesday at the Rock Island National Cemetery, anyone wishing to attend should meet at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline at 9AM. Visitation is 4-7PM Monday at the funeral home, where a rosary will be recited at 7PM. Agnes died Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at her home. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Colona or to the Women's Choice Center, Bettendorf, IA. Agnes Marie Charvet, was born October 16, 1921 in Mabton, WA, the daughter of Emmanuel and Jeanne Menager Charvet. She was educated by Ursuline Sisters in Great Falls, MT and graduated high school from the Ursuline Academy in New Orleans, LA. She married Vernon C. Ries on November 24, 1945, he died February 18, 1970. She married Roderick McCabe on February 24, 1973. He passed away October 31, 1999. Agnes worked at Pier 39 in San Francisco, CA during World War II. After settling in the Quad Cities, she helped Vernon with their business, Ries Plumbing and Heating, in East Moline. Later she worked at several area restaurants including Velie's and Governors. Agnes was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis, where she enjoyed daily mass and adoration. In her younger days, she was very active in the Knights of Columbus with her husband, Vern. Agnes and Rod enjoyed retirement years fishing and gardening. She is survived by sons. Arthur (Cindy) Ries, Geneseo, IL, Paul (Betty) Ries, Midland, MI, Tim (Adrienne) Ries, Sheffield, IL and daughter Laura (Tom) Hendricks, Silvis, stepchildren; Randy (Marci) McCabe, Port Byron, IL, Brett (Mary) McCabe, Minneapolis, MN, Sheri (Gary) Kight, Silvis, forteen grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, sisters, Renee Woodard, Silvis, and Genevieve James, Elk Grove, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, 6 sisters and 4 brothers.
