Obituary

Dorothy A. Johnson, 77, of Moline, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2023 in Mesa, AZ.

A memorial visitation and celebration of Dorothy’s life for family and friends will be 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. A private graveside service will be at Western Township Cemetery, Orion, IL. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Dorothy was born December 19, 1945 in Moline, Illinois, a daughter of Chester and Helen Rosburg McGraw.  She graduated from Orion High School, and pursued her engineering degree at St. Ambrose University, Davenport, IA. Dorothy married Richard E. “Dick” Johnson on June 16, 1968 in Moline, IL. He preceded her in death on March 2, 2018.

Dorothy started her career at John Deere June 2, 1964, working in several divisions for the company, and served as the first female Industrial Engineer Analyst at Deere. Even though she retired from Harvester in 1999 she continued her career as a Supply Management Specialist at Deere - Harvester Works and Cylinder divisions up through 2016. During her tenure of over 50 years with Deere, she was honored with the President’s Award in recognition of growth through education.

She was a member of the Society of Carbide & Tool Engineers (SCTE) where she served as Secretary, Vice Chairman and Chairman of the SCTE Quad Cities Chapter and conducted many activities with the SCTE. In the course of her career, she sat on many boards and committees, and was a board member of Deere Harvester Credit Union.

In earlier years, Dorothy enjoyed bowling in area leagues with her husband. She enjoyed wintering in Arizona and hosting Happy Hour at Mesa Regal.

Surviving are her children, Doug (Felicia) Johnson, Jacksonville, FL, Shawn (Jack) Sosbee, Altoona, IA, and Theresa Johnson, Moline; grandchildren, Stacey, Lexie, Austin, Talliah and Marquise; and great grandchildren, Kynzie, Jenna and Michael.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and her sister, Sandy, in infancy.
