Obituary

Dorothy M. Ward, 97, of East Moline passed away on Monday, May 15, 2023 at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis.

Private graveside services will be held at Greenfield Cemetery, Greenfield, IA. Memorials may be made in care of Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline. Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline is assisting the family.

Dorothy was born on August 28, 1925 in Bridgewater, Iowa, a daughter of Evertt and Ada (Lang) Harshaw. She married Jesse “Paul” Ward on April 8, 1951 in Trenton, MO. Dorothy worked as a Physical Education Teacher for three years in Trenton, Missouri before moving to East Moline where she worked at United Township High School for 27 years, retiring in 1982.

Dorothy’s hobbies included golfing, reading, and bowling. She volunteered at Illini Hospital in Silvis for many years. Dorothy was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in East Moline and a charter member of Mill Creek Country Club (now Pinnacle Country Club) in Milan.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sister, Yalanda Clayton; several nieces and nephews; and several great and great great nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; parents, Evert and Ada; and sister, Myrtle Harshaw.
