Private graveside services for Dr. John Erickson Brasel, 85, of East Moline, IL were held on Friday at the National Cemetery Rock Island. IL Dr. Brasel was born in Jacksonville, IL, March 24, 1932. The only child of Elbert Crane and Florence Harriet Brasel. Dr. Brasel attended Kemper Military School, Boonville, MO, graduating in 1950. As a member of Phi Beta Kappa Fraternity, he graduated from Illinois College, Jacksonville, IL in 1954. He and Mary Joann Erixon were married March 21, 1954 in Jacksonville, IL. In 1958 he graduated from Northwestern University Medical School, Chicago, IL. His internship was at Denver General Hospital, Denver, Co., from July 1, 1958 to June 30, 1959. He completed his residency June 30 1963, from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Chicago Wesley Memorial Hospital, Chicago. He served in the United States Air Force in Minot, ND, from 1963-1965. Dr. Brasel's private practice of Obstetrics–Gynecology in East Moline began in July 1965 after coming to the Quad-Cities. Over the years he was associated with Drs. Don Tomlin and James O. Hanson and Illini Hospital. He had most recently been associated with Genesis Occupational Health Services Clinic in Moline. John's favorite activities included pheasant hunting with his black Labradors and fishing in the Brainerd MN, area. He was a highly skilled physician and intelligent person who recently passed the states required exam to maintain his medical license through 2020. He is survived by his wife, Joann; two sons, Eric Alan (Tammy) Brasel Port Byron, Christopher John (Beatriz) Brasel of East Moline; grandchildren, Tanner (Brittany) Brasel, Daniel Brasel, Celia Brasel, Grace Brasel, and Austin Brasel.
