Funeral services for Edward G. “Eddie” Rodts, 89, of East Moline, IL, will be 1 pm Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Visitation will be 11am-1pm at the funeral home prior to services. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Mr. Rodts passed away Thursday, April 20, 2023, peacefully at his home.
Ed was born April 13, 1934, in Moline, IL, the son of Joseph and Anna Grimes Rodts. He graduated from Alleman High School Class of 1952. On September 9 1952, Ed became a brick and stone mason with the International Union of Brick Layers and Allied Craft Workers of BAC Local No. 6. As a bricklayer he left his mark throughout the Quad Cities. Ed built his home and would tell anyone that it contained 17,500 bricks!
On June 27, 1953, Ed married Patricia Cecil of Moline. In 1963 Ed and Tom Welch formed Rodts and Welch Masonry which existed until 1996. He enjoyed the Quad City Downs when it was operating. He also followed the Chicago Bulls, Bears, and Cubs. Ed was a member of the Bricklayers Union for 68 years.
Survivors include his children, Andrea Rodts, Loveland, CO, Diana (Tom) Hoffmann, East Moline, Ronald (Jennifer) Rodts, Indian Hills, CO, Patricia Allison, Hampton, IL, Jane Bullinger, Fort Collins, CO, and Bernadette Rodts, East Moline; 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Judy Rodts, Orion, IL.
He was preceded in death by his wife; granddaughter, Katelynn Rodts; son-in-law, Brent Allison; and brothers, Joseph (Elsa) Rodts, Robert (Elsie) Rodts, and Frank Rodts.
Memorials may be made to the ARC of the Quad Cities or to Genesis Hospice.
The family would like to thank Ed’s nephew, Tom Rodts for tilling his garden, his niece, Donna Lewis for all the meals she cooked, his grandson, Zayne Rodts of doing yardwork and hanging out with grandpa, and Chris Fredrickson and Jim Marshall for having lunch with him on Thursdays.
