Gary A. Hoffman, 79, of Inverness, IL, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge, IL.
A Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, East Moline, IL. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum of St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Moline where he will be buried next to his beloved son Jeffrey who passed away in 1978. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline.
Gary was born July 22, 1943, in Moline, Illinois, a son of Henry and Wiltrudis “Trudie” Unterreiner Hoffman. He was a graduate of Alleman High School. He married Nancy King in 2002 in the US Virgin Islands.
Gary was an avid golfer. He loved classic cars, especially his 1967 Corvette.
He loved being with his family. After a diagnosis of oral cancer in 2003, he battled the disease with the same steadfast perseverance, resolve, and positive attitude that he applied to his entire life. He never missed his step-daughter’s soccer games, even on days he received chemo treatments.
Gary had a 30-year history of management success for computer industry leaders. He began with Honeywell Systems and led branch sales for 13 years. He was an executive at Prime Computer and Sequoia. Gary ran worldwide sales at Epoch Systems. Gary held additional leadership roles at companies such as Ardent and Ascential Software where he retired from the industry in 2000.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy; stepdaughter, Tricia (Dominic) Marella; grandchildren, Colette, Quinn and Juliette; sister, Carolyn Fye; and several nieces, nephews, and other family.
Gary was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Hoffman; parents; and sister, Wiltrudis Woeber.
