Howard H. Haviland, 100, of Davenport, IA, formerly of East Moline, IL, passed away Friday, July 22, 2022 at Ridgecrest Village, Davenport.
Private family services will be held and burial with military honors will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans or Wounded Warriors.
Howard was born May 26, 1922 in Maywood, IL, the son of Cecil and Isabelle Linklater Haviland. He married Gloria Gould on December 28, 1946 in Davenport. She preceded him in death on November 3, 2020.
Howard was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He honorably served in the Signal Corps in the Asiatic Pacific Theater on the Philippine Islands, Guam, and other unnamed islands.
In earlier years, Howard worked on the state farm. He then worked for the Rock Island Line railroad for many years until his retirement.
Surviving are his daughters, Lynda (Paul) Knobloch, Davenport, Sherrill Burmeister, Davenport and Kathleen Fogler, Davenport; grandchildren, Christopher Knobloch, Matthew Knobloch, Stacy Evans, Melissa Miller, Dan Sime and Christine Hamilton; eleven great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and two sisters, Genivee Wahl and Hazel Neff.
