Obituary

Jesse Zaragoza, 86, Silvis, passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Unity Point, Rock Island. Funeral services are 10 AM Tuesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline, where MAVA will conduct Military Honors. Visitation is 4-7PM Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 3 PM. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, where he was a member. Jesse was born on April 17, 1928 in Wathena, KS, the son of Genaro and Maria (Miranda) Zaragoza. He married Victoria Valle in 1957 at Holy Trinity, Rock Island. She died on July 28, 2008. He retired in 1980 as an assembler from John Deere Harvester, East Moline. He was very proud to have served in the US Army post WWII in Germany. Receiving the WWII Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. Jesse enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. He was a self taught mechanic who loved tinkering in his garage. Mr. Zaragoza was also known for his gift of conversation. Survivors include his children (spouses), Pam (Carlos) Perez, Silvis, Ruben Zaragoza, Moline, Raymond (Cindy) Zaragoza, Moline, Lydia (Cherokee) French, Springfield, MO, Diane (Bill) Salisbury, Niles, MI, and Maria Zaragoza, Rock Island, 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 1great-great granddaughter and sisters, Juanita Sausedo, East Moline, and Eloise Sandoval, Silvis. He was preceded in death by his wife, and siblings, Joe, Lucy Taylor, Ruben, Manuel and Mary Martinez.
