Jimmy McCooley Obituary

Jimmy D. McCooley, 86, of Silvis, died Thursday, April 13, 2023 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Cremation rites were accorded. A memorial visitation will be from 1-3 pm Sunday, April 23, 2023 at Van Hoe Funeral Home, 1500 6th Street, East Moline. A private family graveside service will take place at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, where military honors will be presented. Memorials may be made in care of First Baptist Church, East Moline.

Jimmy was born in Guin, Alabama on December 12, 1936, a son of Roy and Bertice McCooley. He married Joanne Shumake on August 29, 1959 at Mt. Zion Methodist Church in Elmwood, Tennessee.

Jimmy was a U.S. Navy veteran. He worked as a pipe fitter for nearly 30 years for the Rock Island Lines. He spent the last 15 years of his career as the Rock Island Arsenal.

Jimmy was a member of First Baptist Church, East Moline. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Joanne McCooley, Silvis; sons, Mark McCooley, Bartonville, Ill. and John (Desiree Grace) McCooley, Moline; and grandchildren, Sarah Anne McCooley and Eliza Carolyn Grace McCooley.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, James P. McCooley.
