Kathrina J. "Kathy" (Hughes) Anderson

Kathrina J. “Kathy” Anderson, 71, of East Moline, IL, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at River Crossing, Moline, IL, after an extended struggle with Alzheimers Dementia.

In accordance with her wishes her body will be cremated. No services are planned at this time. Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline is assisting with arrangements. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Kathy was born in Moline, IL, on January 31, 1951 to Edward and Lenora (Hamrick) Hughes. She married Mark E. Anderson in June of 1975.

She attended Moline schools and was a member of Moline High School, Class of 1968. A few years after high school, she went on to take several classes in Psychology and Art at Black Hawk College.

At the time of her marriage to Mark, she was employed at the Montgomery Elevator Credit Union which then led to a job at the Rock Island Arsenal Credit Union.

Upon the purchase of a family home with a large semi-wooded lot, Kathy left the work force. This allowed her to pursue her hobbies of gardening and bird watching. She created a beautiful landscape that included many flowers, plants, trees and shrubs, all of which attracted many species of birds and other local wildlife.

Kathy had a very extensive life bird list and always enjoyed participating in the local Audubon bird counts. She also enjoyed vacations with Mark.

She had been a member of the Moline Horticulture Society, the Mississippi Valley Hosta Society, The Quad City Chapter of the National Audubon Society and The Nature Conservancy.

She is survived by her husband Mark, of East Moline; daughter, Shawna (Chris) Donar, Benton, WI; and grandchildren, Emma and Cael, Benton, WI.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents.
