Lillian "Joan" Kinkead

Funeral services for Lillian “Joan” Kinkead, 85, of Silvis, IL, will be 10 AM Thursday, March 14, 2024, at the Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, IL. The burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be 5-7 PM Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at the funeral home. Joan passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.

Joan loved spending time with her family. She never met a stranger; she was a friend to all. Her hobbies included cooking, crafts, and sewing. She loved playing cards and games with family and friends. She enjoyed attending her family’s sporting events. Her work life consisted of bookkeeping and accounting. After Joan retired in 1998, her and Jerry enjoyed traveling the world, the 50 states, and visiting family. In 1995, she was diagnosed with polycythemia and struggled with the disease until the end.

Joan was born July 2, 1938, in Dumont, IA, the daughter of Joseph E. and Adia “Irene” DeVore Merrill. She married Gerald “Jerry” Kinkead December 22, 1956, in East Moline.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry; children, Diana (Mike) Muldoon, Coal Valley, IL, Susan (Rev. Greg) Abbott, Kilgore, TX, Barry (Leslie) Kinkead, Woodstock, GA, Pamela (Jeffrey) Jostand, Fort Meyers, FL, and Sheila (Jeff) Crandall, Davenport, IA; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and brothers, Jack (Barb) Merrill, Carbon Cliff, IL, and Bill (Rita) Merrill, Cleveland, IL. and a large extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Jim, Butch, Bob and Norman Merrill.
