Mary R. Wright

Funeral services for Mary R. Wright, 84, of Silvis, IL, will be 10 AM Friday, September 8, 2023, at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Silvis. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Thursday September 7, 2023, at the Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Mrs. Wright passed away Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Genesis Silvis.

Mary DeBackere was born January 20, 1939, in Wheatland, IA, the daughter of Prudent and Zosima Vanholst DeBackere. She married William Wright January 16, 1965, in Rock Island, IL. He passed away August 13, 2008.

Mary retired from the Silvis School District in 2001 after 20 years of driving a school bus, a job she truly enjoyed. She loved the outdoors whether it was camping, fishing, or watching birds, Cardinals were especially her favorite. She enjoyed playing cards with her lifelong friends from high school. She was an active member of St. Mark’s Church and she especially loved helping others, had tremendous faith and devotion in God and completely adored and cherished her family.

Survivors include her children, Mark Wilson, Silvis, Theresa (Bill) Chipman, Aledo, IL, Jerry (Danelle) Wright, LeClaire, IA, Jim (Ann) Wright, East Moline, and Thomas Wright, East Moline; grandchildren, Shawn, Ashley, Lacy, Tony, Taylor, and Bailey; great grandchildren, Matthew, Emma, Makenzie, Madelynn, Tony, Colton, Jaxon, Lorenzo, and Swayzee; and her brother, Joe Debackere, Springfield, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
