Funeral services for Oscar M. Sandoval, 95, of Silvis, IL, will be 11:30 AM Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the House of the Lord Church 459 16th Avenue, East Moline, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be 2:30 PM Monday November 20, 2023, at St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Moline. Mr. Sandoval passed away Sunday, November 12, 2023, at home.
Oscar was born January 13, 1928, in East Moline, the son of Joseph and Carmen Morales Sandoval. He married Celia “Sally” Quijas February 20,1954, in Davenport, IA. They had two sons, William and Steven. He coached his boy’s Little League and Babe Ruth baseball teams. He also coached his grandsons Jake’s and Alex’s teams. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Moline American Legion Post 246. Oscar grew up on Hero Street USA Silvis. His brother Willie was one of the fallen heroes on the Hero Street Monument. He retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1988, after 30 years of traveling the world training our allies on the M198 Howitzer Canon. He loved dancing with his wife every week for 50 years. He was a family man who cherished his family, often working two jobs to give them a good life. He loved sports and was a Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. In his younger years he was a valuable member of the Last Roundup Softball team.
Oscar was a deacon at the House of the Lord Church, where his son William is the pastor. Oscar loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and spent his last 24 years serving Him at the House of the Lord Church.
Survivor include his wife, Sally Sandoval, Silvis; sons, Pastor William (Patti) Sandoval, and Steven Sandoval, Colona, IL; grandchildren, Jake, Alex, Kevin (Lauren) Jennifer, and John; great grandchildren, Will, Henry, Luke, Levi, Nova, Jace, and John Jr.; siblings, Rufina Guerrero, East Moline, Charlie (Ruby) Sandoval, East Moline, Mary (Phillip) Garza, East Moline, and Fred (Pauline) Sandoval, Nashville, TN; sister-in-law, Rita Sandoval, Silvis; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents; siblings, infant twin brothers, Peter and John Sandoval, Ruben (Ramona) Sandoval, William “Willie” Sandoval, Valencia Garcia, Alfonse Sandoval, Harry Sandoval, and Joseph “Moe” Sandoval.
