Patricia "Pat" Weir Obituary

Patricia (Pat) Weir, 89, of Moline, passed away unexpectedly on February 25, 2024.  She was a was a cherished mom, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend with a tremendous capacity for love and will be dearly missed.  She was a longtime realtor with Weir Realty Co. and co-owned the Weir Building.

Pat was born Patricia Anne Steiner on March 27, 1934, in East Moline, the youngest of eight children to Anton and Mary Lesar Steiner. She was a graduate of United Township High School where she was a competitive tennis athlete and played the clarinet. She remained close to her siblings and childhood friends throughout her entire life.  She and some high school friends even formed a sorority.  After high school, she worked for John Deere and Kuehne Loan company in administration.  She married James (Jim) Weir on November 25, 1961, at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline.

Married life brought many opportunities and challenges, and Pat was her husband and family’s foundation to make a better life.  When Jim started in business with a bar/restaurant (Peaches & Cream) in Rock Island, she did everything from keeping the books to cleaning the bar, all while raising a baby.  When Jim established Weir Realty Co., she managed administration and helped to make clients from all over the world feel welcomed while raising two sons.  Mid-life she became a full-time realtor who enjoyed serving clients, often becoming friends.  Working alongside her sister, Marge Ossian, one of the most successful realtors in Rock Island County, made Weir Realty truly a family business.  Later in life after selling, Pat owned & managed a professional office building with Jim where the tenants have also been a part of her extended family.  People and giving were joys to her.

Pat was devoted to whatever she set forth to do.  She was an avid golfer and a longtime active member of Short Hills Country Club.  She played a smart game of bridge, and usually was on the plus side of the poker table.  She decorated and kept a rather immaculate house.  She redirected her golf passion to help one son become a top national youth and later professional golfer.  She helped her other son pursue graduate school and a business career.  She cared daily for several elderly family members with total commitment.  Pat was always there to help and offer encouragement or a nudge when needed.

Pat loved her family and friends, and it showed.  She spent time each Winter in Arizona with her husband, sons, grandchildren, sister, and extended family.  In daily life, she took every chance to say hello to friends and clients.

Survivors include her husband Jim, sons, J.D. (Krista) Weir, Scottsdale, AZ, and Ben Weir, Mesa, AZ; grandchildren, James & Grace (J.D.), Brennan & Davis (Ben); sister Beverly Hart, Scottsdale, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Tony Steiner, Marie Bowling, Joe Steiner, Vic Steiner, Marge Ossian, and Bernie Steiner.

A mass will be held in her name at Christ The King Church, Moline, Saturday March 2 at 9:00 a.m.; everyone is welcome to attend.  Following the mass, a private family graveside service will be held at the Drury Township Cemetery, Illinois City, IL.  It is a peaceful country cemetery with others of the Weir Family.
