Richard "Rick" Whittington, 64, Geneseo, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at his home. Memorial services are 4 PM Sunday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Visitation is from 2PM until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a local animal shelter, Rebuilding Together or to Crossroads Church, East Moline. Rick was born on July 24, 1952 in Annawan, IL, the son of Raymond and Anna Jean (Vermeere) Whittington. He married Marilyn Land on June 27, 1970 in East Moline. He retired as a Ready Mix driver from the former Moline Consumers in 1993. After retirement he owned and operated Blondie's Restaurants, and construction businesses and eventually became a hobby farmer. He enjoyed his grandkids and his animals. Rick was the first patient in the Midwest to receive an artificial heart that was allowed to go home with the device. He received a heart transplant in 2011. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Marilyn, children, Vicki (Joe) Wright, Silvis, Richard Whittington (Michelle Simms), Rock Island, grandchildren, Jacob, James, Jason and Kaitlin Wright and Joseph (Jennifer) and Shelby Whittington. Siblings, David (RoJean) Whittington, Theresa (Steve) Klotz, Michael (Trudy) Whittington and Steven (Missy) Whittington, all of Geneseo and sister-in-law Sue Whittington. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Dan.
