Rita Jean Schatteman, 80, of East Moline, IL, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Hope Creek Nursing and Rehab, East Moline.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 2, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Moline. A rosary will be recited 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, with visitation following from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church, of which she was a member.
Rita was born February 1, 1943 in Moline, Illinois, a daughter of Raymond H. and Adeline (Leenknecht) Schatteman. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and graduated from United Township High School in 1962.
She worked at Short Hills Buffet, Stage Stop Restaurant & Buffet, and the Niabi Zoo as an animal caretaker. Rita had a passion for oil painting with her club friends, and selling her artwork locally. She loved gardening, fishing, going to the movies, bird watching, caring for zoo animals, and teasing her nieces and nephews, whom she adored. Rita cherished her beloved cat, “Bella”.
Those left to cherish her memory include her siblings, Dolores Bell, East Moline, Raymond (Joanne) Schatteman, East Moline, and Carol Klauer, Taylor Ridge; many nieces and nephews, and their families.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Adeline; sister, Rose Poelvoorde VanDeWiele; brothers-in-law, John Bell, Bernard Klauer, and Andy Poelvoorde; and niece, Theresa Henry.
Rita’s family wishes to express a heartfelt Thank You to the nurses and staff of Hospice Compassus, Hope Creek, Father Donald Levitt, and Christ the King parish staff for their love and support.
