Robert "Bob" Fisher Obituary

Robert “Bob” James Fisher, East Moline, passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, in Bartow, FL. He was 87.

Memorial visitation will be Thursday, October 20th, from 4 – 6pm at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. A memorial service will be 2pm Friday, October 21st, at the funeral home. Please send memorial donations to Arts of Life 2010 W Carroll Ave Chicago IL 60612

Bob was born June 8, 1935, to the late James and Pearl (Kell) Fisher of Aledo, IL, at Mercer Hospital. He graduated from Aledo High school in 1954, where he was a two-sport medalist and an officer on the Student Council and Aledo Varsity Club.

Bob married his high school sweetheart, Betty (Stead) Fisher, whom he was survived by, on November 23, 1958. They celebrated 71 years together, beginning in Aledo and eventually moving to East Moline and wintering in Bartow, FL. One of Bob’s greatest joys was his children, who he is survived by Perry Fisher (Rhonda) of Broken Arrow, OK, Scott Fisher (Melinda) of Pea Ridge, AR, and Denise Fisher (David Gebhardt) of Chicago, IL. Bob continued his love for sports by being a die-hard fan of his children's endeavors.  If you were at a football game, wrestling match, track meets, or tennis match at UT during the 1980s, you would have seen him pacing before games and matches with anticipation reserved only for a loving father.

Mr. Fisher was a Presbyterian and was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of East Moline until his retirement when he and Betty began wintering in Florida, where he continued his faith at First Presbyterian Church of Bartow.

Bob began his profession as a plumber very early when he joined his father's business, Peter’s Plumbing, in Aledo, in 1956. When he and Betty moved from Aledo to East Moline in 1966, he began working for Van de Geist Plumbing, where he worked for most of his tenure as a plumber. Bob ended his careeras the head of maintenance at Black Hawk College.

In his free time, Bob enjoyed lake fishing and spent many vacations and most of his retirement searching for the best fishing spots in Minnesota and Florida. He also enjoyed playing euchre, finding creative ways to bring a variety of native birds and squirrels to his elaborate feeders, and spending time with his three grandchildren, Patrick (Cassidy), Tyler (Leah), Scotty (Jenny), and six great-grandchildren Landon, Presley, Fox, Aspen, Harper and Carter who all survive him.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Maggie Castor.
