Rosann Kelly Obituary

Rosann Kelly, 73, of East Moline, Illinois, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2024, in Rock Island, Illinois surrounded by family. Arrangements are being made through Van Hoe Funeral Home. Per Rosann’s wishes, there will be no visitation and the family will celebrate her life privately.

Rosann was born February 22, 1950, to Alice and Frank DeCastaker. She graduated from Alleman High School in 1968. She married James R. Schroeder, of Bettendorf, Iowa in February 1969 and later divorced in 1974. In July 1979, Rosann married Michael A. Kelly, of East Moline.

In her prime, simple pleasures brought joy to Rosann’s life. She loved to listen and dance to music, enjoyed traveling to new destinations with Michael, looked forward to shopping for hours at Von Maur with her best friend, listened and laughed at her daughter’s life’s shenanigans, and adored having a granddaughter to love and spoil.

It seemed that Rosann’s purpose or calling in life was to take care of others. She resiliently cared for her family, overcoming challenges with unwavering love and dedication. Rosann was also compassionate and devoted to many people during their final days including her parents; her second cousin and Godmother, Rosie Ternoey; her sister, Mary Ellen Norin; and her best friend Linda Picón.

Rosann is survived by her husband of 44 years, Michael Kelly; daughter, Shannon (Louis) Gruhlke; son, Ryan Kelly; granddaughter, Grace Gruhlke; sisters Fran Westphal and Kathy Newhouse; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her mother and father, Alice, and Frank DeCastaker; sisters Carol DeTaeye and Mary Ellen Norin; her best friend Linda Picón; and step-grandson, Louis Gruhlke, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association in Rosann’s name, or to a favorite charity.

A special thank you to the UnityPoint, Rock Island, SICU staff, namely Dr. Kevin, Anne, Amanda, Steve, and other countless staff members who were kind, compassionate, and took great care of Rosann during her stay.

“Above the planet on a wing and a prayer/my grubby halo, a vapor trail in the empty air/across the clouds I see my shadow fly/out of the corner of my watering eye/a dream unthreatened by the morning light/could blow this soul right through the roof of the night” ~ Learning to Fly - Pink Floyd
