Velma “LaRue” Roes, of East Moline, Illinois, age 80, died April 11, 2024, surrounded by family. Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 17th, at St. Annes Catholic Church, and may be viewed via live-stream at https://vimeo.com/934592457 or this obituary page. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. A Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 16th, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, Illinois, with visitation following from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
LaRue was born June 18th, 1943, in Centerville, Iowa. Daughter of B.S. Dick Welch and Olive Mae True Welch Kozeliski. She married David W. Roes in Unionville, Missouri on December 16th, 1963, then later married at Holy Family Catholic Church in Davenport, Iowa. LaRue was a member of St. Annes Catholic Church since 1966 and served as craft chairman for several years.
She enjoyed crafts, collecting Isabel Blooms, bells, and tins. LaRue worked at Royal Neighbors of America, Gate City Optical, and Franks Foundry. She loved homemaking and cleaning for others.
LaRue is survived by her husband, David, children, David W. Roes Jr. and daughter-in-law, Dee Roes, daughter Mary Ann Izabella Biggs and son-in-law, David Swanson, son, Christopher John Roes and daughter-in-law, Lisa Roes; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother, James Welch and sister, June Cochran. She is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, two sisters, a brother-in-law, and sister-in-law. LaRue loved her husband, children, and grandchildren as much as life itself.
