Bernard Kinkead Obituary

Funeral services for Bernard Lee “Bernie” Kinkead, 85, of Galesburg, IL, formerly of East Moline, IL, will be 10 am Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in Galesburg Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 pm Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Kinkead died Friday, October 5, 2018, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

Bernie was born June 13, 1933, in Moline, IL, the son of Kenneth and Margaret Sansale Kinkead. He attended Wells School and United Township High School in East Moline. He served in the US Army from 1953-55 during the Korean Conflict. He married Donna DeBo. He later married his childhood sweetheart, Marian Dowell August 16, 1986, at the First Christian Church, Knoxville, IL. Bernie worked as a radial drill operator for John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline, retiring in 1988. He enjoyed playing golf, and following his favorite sports teams the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and the Fighting Illini. He was an avid euchre player. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his loving wife, Marian Kinkead, Galesburg; children, Mark (Michelle) Kinkead, Debbie Kinkead, Dan (Julie) Kinkead, and Teresa Kinkead; grandchildren, Brian Kinkead, Jennifer Simmons, Angie Kight, Lindsey Kinkead, Ryan Kinkead, Megan Kinkead, Warren Kinkead, Jacob Kinkead, Amber Kinkead, Tiffany Kinkead, and Travis Kinkead; 14 great grandchildren; brothers, Ronald (Teri) Kinkead and Gerald (Joanne) Kinkead; brother-in-law, Charles “Smiddy” Smith; stepchildren, James Dowell, Jeff Dowell, and Kim Dowell; and his beloved dog, “Little Guy”.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Shirley Smith.

Memorials may be made the Knox County Humane Society.
