Ruben Sandoval

Ruben Sandoval, 95, of Silvis passed away Saturday March 3, 2018 at New Perspective Senior Living in Silvis. Funeral services are 10:00AM Thursday March 8, 2018 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Silvis. Visitation will be held from 5-7PM Wednesday March 7, 2018 at Van Hoe Funeral Home, Ltd., in East Moline where memorials may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. A rosary will be recited prior to visitation at the funeral home at 4:00PM. Entombment will be at St. Mary's Mausoleum in East Moline.

Ruben was born July 2, 1922 in Tulsa, OK a son of Joseph and Carmen (Morales) Sandoval. He graduated from United Township High School in 1940 and was a 1941 Dispatch Golden Glove Boxing Champion with the Viscioni Tigers Boxing Gym in East Moline. He enlisted in the US Coast Guard in 1943, proudly serving our country as a Gunner's Mate on the USS Gallup(PF-47), and was honorably discharged in 1946. He married Ramona Garcia, October 23, 1948 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. She preceded him in death on March 6, 2008.

He worked for IH Harvester for many years, retiring in 1980 as a repairman. He enjoyed cutting grass, carpentry, working with stained glass, and was proud to have built his own home. He was a lifetime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, a past member of Father PRO Society, and a past Commander of VFW Post 8890 in East Moline.

He is survived by his son, Mike of Silvis; siblings, Rufina Guerrero and Mary (Phillip) Garza both of East Moline, Harry Sandoval of Silvis, Oscar (Sally) Sandoval, Charles (Ruby) Sandoval, Joseph Jr. (Rita) Sandoval all of East Moline, Fred (Pauline) Sandoval of TN; a sister-in-law, Emma Sandoval of Silvis; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruben was preceded in death by his wife, Ramona, and siblings, William (Willie) Sandoval, Valencia (Raymond) Garcia and Alphonse Sandoval.
